台湾游 – Preparation Homework

Thanks to Angela Tang, Sean Goh, Serena Soon & Jennifer Chang, pre-trip homework becomes easy with their useful advice.

Travelling free and easy usually requires extra effort. . However, the experience, pleasure and satisfaction derive from exploring the places yourselves is beyond description.

The feeling is like the preparation I did for New Zealand trip. Like New Zealand, I can see the effort Taiwan government/province and business operators put in from their websites. They are plentiful and useful for travelers to plan trip, provided you understand Chinese. I am impressed, even temples and hawker stalls have websites. Wow!!!

I am ambitious in my planning. My father, husband, 3 children & I intend to cover as many places as possible . I wish you who have been to Taiwan can give me some advice. I don’t know whether what I plan is feasible. Today, I just put together what I like in the itinerary here. This is a preliminary stage of planning. Certainly more things will be added.

The last time I visited Taiwan (Taipei & Taichung) was 1993 on guided tour. Our knowledge of Chinese language and 闽南语 is our advantage.  Your advice on driving directions, transportation, attractions not to be missed,  accommodation are definitely important to my planning and enriching my knowledge .

My favourites: 民宿 (home stay),  farm stay, aboriginal culture, nature, local custom.

请多指教.  谢谢!

  1. hey i think u should relly go Gu Gong Museum. the jade cabbage and fatty meat (which are real stones which look like the real thing) are 2 of the top items to be shipped out of beijing. will be really a pity if u miss them. i like a lot of the very delicate ivory carvings that are not easily found eslewhere (i dun see them in the louvre or the new york metropolitan)

also think u should go yang ming shan at night. the night view is better (although i dun thnink it is gr8) but some nice snacks at night (sausages!)

    • Hi Sean,

I think through this experience sharing, I think I undertand you better. From your modern look, you don’t look like the type that will step in the museum. I pale in comparison and seem uncultured. I will definitely go to Yang Ming Shan, perhaps to reach there late afternoon & stay until night. Thanks for recommendation. By the way, 忠烈祠 was one of the places I went in 1993. I forgot what I saw there – my impression of that place is change of guard. Getting old, can’t remember 陈年往事.

  2. Hi, so nice to see that you are also like me planning for a trip to Taiwan for end of this year. I have face some problems with booking hotels/minsu as it seems that all popular ones are fully booked already. Remember to book early. Don’t be like me!

    • Thanks for your advice. I will stop procrastinating and start to do something. Tough! Think both of us have same liking, i prefer homestay and have tried this type of accommodation in New Zealand, East Malaysia Kuching. Getting to experience the lifestyle of the people is more meaningful than sightseeing.
