My feelings, Self-improvement

Life saving

After 2 Sundays of full day training, I pass my Basic First Aid Test and become a member of MacPherson Garden Estate Emergency Rescue Team.

This  activity was fully funded by People’s Association, thanks to the grass-root volunteers at my neighbourhood who organized it. We learnt the essential skills of First Aid, CPR and common emergencies and the correct management.

Our instructor, Bernard Koh said I did the CPR test well, probably because of my build & correct technique. It motivates me to pursue specialised CPR course. Bernard also talked about the benefits of blood-donation, health benefits to the donor, metabolism. Coincidentally, few days after my first lesson, my husband Goh suggested going for a blood donation after he received sms appealing for A+ blood, not his first time. I never get this type of sms before, my blood type is B+. Nevertheless I had my 8th blood donation on 5 September 2009 at HSA with Goh. I didn’t do for the past one year. I felt good to be able to save someone’s life. My health is good that’s why I can do it.

Facts

  • Only 30,000 Singaporeans know how to administer CPR.
  • In Singapore, only 2.7% or about 3 in 100 sudden cardiac arrest victims survive when they collapse in public places. This compares to the 40% survival rate in places like Seattle in the US and Gottenburg in Sweden.

  1. Hi Pamela,

You are always very kind and helpful to your friends and colleagues and I am so touched and admire your courage to be a regular blood donor. I think I will faint to see the needle and the bag of blood taken from my body. May God blessed you and your family good health and happiness always.

    Regards
    Katherine

    • Hey BloggerDude, I’m happy that your blog. I write to de-stress – kinda expressing my feelings. Sometimes I feel that my life is monotonous and wish to do something useful and contribute to the society but can’t afford the time. Frankly speaking, the first blood donation happened many years ago when I knew that my 2nd son, Dominique’s bloodtype: B Negative. Very rare in Singapore. In order to pray for my son’s good health, I told myself I want to contribute. And also through experience sharing, I hope more people can express feelings and not supress the negative ones. And many thanks for motivating me to carry on.
